PENZANCE TO ST.IVES

VIA LANDS END TOUR

We start the day overlooking the spectacular St Michaels Mount, the home of the St Aubyn family for nearly 400 years. Originally a 12th century Monastery and now part owned by the National Trust, the tide creeps in twice a day covering the causeway, and making the Mount into an Island….a must stop for photos, and your guide will fill you in on the history and legends surrounding this iconic landmark. We then take a drive through Penzance, showing you the town centre and the historic Chapel street, before heading through Newlyn with its colourful fishing harbour and onto our next stop, Mousehole. (pronounced Mouzel.) We’ll park up and take a walk around this picturesque 13th century granite village, nestled around its harbour. You’ll be told the story of the Mousehole Cat and there’s an option to visit the Ark, to see talented local craftsman Paul producing his fabulous Cornish Pewter Jewellery and Ornaments. On from Mousehole we take the tiny road down to Lamorna Cove, the once busy Granite Port, to enjoy the view over turquoise water and granite cliffs, with the option to sample a Cream tea or morning Coffee and cake from the cafe. Just up the road we stop to enjoy a wander around the Neolithic stone circle called the Merry Maidens while your guides explains the history and legends behind them, then onto Penberth Cove! Arguably the prettiest cove in Cornwall if not Britain, this unspoilt cobbled harbour is the backdrop for the fishing village in the recent Poldark TV series, and is an artist and photographers delight. We visit Porthcurno next, past the Telegraphy Museum, and the stunning beach, your guide will tell you all about the cables laid across the world from this tiny cove back in the 1860’s and how they transformed modern communication. Just above the beach is the remarkable Minack theatre, carved out the cliffs by Rowena Cade and her Gardener, it looks like a Roman Amphitheatre, but was the the life work of this amazing lady started in the 1930’s, and still evolving today. (there is a small entrance fee of £5 per person for the theatre.) Just a short drive West is the famous most Westerly point in England, Lands End. After a stunning view over the Atlantic Ocean and the Longships Lighthouse we head up the Atlantic coast, into the iconic Tin mining district, through St Just and out to Cape Cornwall. This blustery headland, once a busy Tin Mining area, and boasting a 6th century Oratory chapel, has some amazing views and dramatic seascapes. We’ll also visit the Tin mines at Botallack, famed for their position at the edge of the Ocean, your guide will walk you around the site and explain some of the history of the mines and the

lifestyle of the Cornish miner. Our last stop of the day will be St Ives. With its historic Harbour, white sands, fisherman’s cottages, and galleries galore, this once Artist Colony is a great way to end the day with a wander and a creamy Cornish Ice cream.
