Getting to Cornwall
Travel Options.
Cornwall is located in the far South West of the UK, roughly 300 miles from London. Therefore we recommend you plan a stay in Cornwall for at least a couple of nights.
So, how do you get here?
It really depends on your budget and whether you want to handle your own luggage.
If you are flying into London, then you’ve several options.
1. Take the train. You either get the Heathrow Express into Paddington station and pick up the Paddington to Penzance line, or take the tranfer bus to Reading station and pick up the train there. (quicker and more direct.) Here’s a link to Railair for more details on the bus. You can choose which station to disembark in Cornwall depending on where your tour starts or where you have booked your accommodation. For our Cornwall tours the stations on the mainline that we recommend are Bodmin Parkway, Truro or Penzance, but there are branch lines to Newquay, Falmouth and St Ives if needed. it takes a minimum of around 4 hours by train. We recommed using Trainline to see timetables and book tickets. Getting to Cornwall from other parts of the UK can include a few changes of trains and a longer journey.
2. Flying to Newquay Cornwall Airport.
Newquay airport is a small regional airport in the heart of Cornwall. You can’t fly direct from the US, but it does connect with many UK and some European airports. Most people coming to the UK fly into Heathrow from around the World, where you need to transfer to Gatwick or Stansted to connect with flights to Cornwall, and once in the air the flight takes around an hour. Currently Air Lingus offer flights from the US via Dublin to Cornwall and will handle your luggage, so if you aren’t planning to go to London first then this is a great option. If you want to see all your flying options please visit the Newquay Cornwall airport website. We will happily pick up from there to start a tour or help you arrage a local taxi to your accommodation.
3. Private Transfer with Tour Cornwall. Many of our customers choose to add a private ‘door to door’ transfer to the beginning and end of there tour with us. We will collect you and handle your luggage from any airport, Port or Hotel in the UK. We can quote for a direct transfer with comfort breaks, or for a little more we can include a sightseeing stop on route, to enjoy a leisurely lunch and time to explore a well known tourist site such as Stonenenge, Salisbury, Wells or Glastonbury for example.
Heathrow to Mid Cornwall takes aroud 5 hours by car, plus stops, Southampton Docks is around 4.5 hours, Bristol Airport is around 2.5 hours and Exeter airport 1.5 hours.
We can also start or finish your Cornwall tour to fit in with your UK vacation schedule, designing a sightseeing day to or from the Cotwolds, Bath or Oxford for example.
