FULL DAY TOUR

We start the day overlooking the iconic Fistral Bay in Newquay, under the shadow the Grand, Victorian Hotel called the Headland. Newquay is the home of surfing in the UK, and Fistral has attracted world renowned suffers since the 1960’s. We’ll stop again, just around the corner at the 13th century Huers Hut, marvel at the view up the coastline and chat about the Pilchards that helped found these historic fishing villages.

Heading North we leave Newquay, and after a short photo stop at Watergate Bay, we head inland to the ancient monastic village of St Mawgan. We’ll view the 13th century church, and the Carmolite Convent before taking a wander to soak up the atmosphere of this special village.

Back out to the coast, we head for the Bedruthan Steps, one of the most photographed and painted coastal views in Cornwall, with the backdrop of Islands and Headlands you can see why they used it for the opening scenes in the TV series Poldark. The little café here in the old Iron mining buildings is a great place for morning coffee, or a cheeky Cream Tea with Jam and Clotted cream.

Padstow next, made famous by the seafood chef Rick Stein, this medieval fishing port, was the landing point for 6th century pilgrim saints, and boasts one of Britain’s oldest pagan festivals. After viewing the outside of Prideaux Place, the small country house and deer park, you have the option to take a walk around the harbour and shops.

After rounding the Camel Estuary, we arrive back at the coast to the ‘forgotten village’ of Port Quin. This once derelict fishing village was brought back to life by the National Trust, and it’s the perfect spot for a brief walk up onto the coast path to enjoy the dramatic views…. Optional of course!

In the next bay is the now famous Port Isaac (or Port Wenn), home of the quirky Doc Martin and the more recent Fisherman’s Friends movie. After a brief history from your guide you’ll be dropped here to explore the tiny streets, have lunch and view the filming sites should you wish. We then pick you up and continue North up the coast.

The dramatic cliffs and rolling farmland continues, as we head for Tintagel and its Arthurian legend. We park up by the stout Norman Church above the town to walk the coast path for a breath-taking view over this Iconic Island, and discuss the history and the links with King Arthur.

Our last coastal top is Boscastle, one of the oldest harbours in Cornwall, it’s a great place to walk the old cobbled street, and enjoy the view over the ancient harbour walls and dramatic headlands… and perhaps enjoy a creamy Cornish Ice-cream?

If we have time before dropping you at your Hotel we’ll swing by the edge of Bodmin Moor to view Rough Tor, home to some of Cornwall earliest settlers from Neolithic times.

This is a private tour, you will have the car and guide for 8 hours. Although this is our suggested itinerary, feel free to contact us to adapt the tour to suit you, or chat with your guide at the beginning of the day.
