FULL DAY TOUR.
We start the day with a scenic drive through the historic Harbour town of Fowey, once home of the Cornish Author Daphne De Maurier, and renowned for Pirates, to Readymoney Cove and St Catherines Castle, before we drop you in the town centre for a wander around the tiny streets with its estuary views and interesting shops.
Next, we follow the river down to Lostwithiel, the medieval capital of Cornwall, over the 13th century bridge and down to the quiet picturesque hamlet of St Winnow. We’ll view the lovely old church overlooking the estuary with its ancient bench ends, rood screen and stained glass, then stroll through the farmyard and visit the quaint little farm museum.
Following the river, we take a short break at Lerryn, where you can get a coffee or a cream tea and sit by the river, in the spot that inspired Kenneth Grahame to write the ‘Wind in the Willows’ back in 1908. A painters and photographers heaven!
We then continue to follow the river up to Bodmin Moor, to visit one of Cornwall oldest monuments, Trethevy Quoit. Estimated to be around 5500 years old, this burial site with its 20-tonne capstone is a site to behold! Just up the road is Cornwall highest village, Minions, an ideal spot for lunch in the little café. We’ll then take a walk on the moors, hopefully bump into the wild Dartmoor Ponies, view the Hurlers stone circles, the Cheesewring Tor and the old Copper mines.
After our walk we’ll take a picturesque drive across the moors to Jamaica Inn, the atmospheric Smugglers pub and coaching stop, made famous by Daphne DeMaurier. You can visit the Smugglers museum or sit in the ancient pub for an afternoon drink or Cream Tea.
If time allows, we’ll view a little more of the Moors or head back to your hotel for around 5.00pm.
